1855: So, about that severed arm...

I just received a text message from my brother demanding to know why I haven't been answering his messages about whether or not I've seen a dismembered arm in the Matrix.
Let me begin by saying that I have not deliberately been leaving his messages unanswered. The truth is that until this moment, I had not been entirely certain that I'd even received such messages. They come in very late at night when I'm asleep, so I don't see them until I wake up in the morning, when I'm totally disoriented because I've just been ripped out of a very deep sleep by my alarm clock.
This morning, for instance, I was having a dream about eating the most delicious chocolate chip cookie in the world, only to have my enjoyment of this incredible cookie cut short by the sound of my alarm. I got out bed, turned off the alarm and looked at my phone, where I saw this:
"DID YOU CHECK FOR THE DISEMBODIED ARM IN THE MATRIX?"
My first thought was not "WTF?" but, "That's weird, I think I got this message already." My confusion was compounded by my inability to determine where that cookie went.
While I was wrong about that cookie ever having existed, I was right about having read that or something like that already. Yesterday morning, I received a text from my brother announcing "OMG I JUST SAW A PHANTOM LIMB IN THE MATRIX."
And, you know, I thought I'd responded to that already. Actually, I thought we'd discussed it over instant messenger, but at this point I'm not entirely sure what I've done or not done where cookies or dismembered body parts are concerned.
