1537: Sarah and I are just girls. Girls U want.

In addition to those mind-hurtingly weird Soviet-era playground sculptures I mentioned earlier, I saw this on BoingBoing today:

How awesome is that!

Naturally, it reminded me of the brief stint my roommate* Sarah and I had as Devo impersonators.

I should clarify that this wasn't done in any sort of professional capacity. No, it was part of our school's hazing ritual in which upperclassmen theoretically put wide-eyed, impressionable freshmen on trial in front of the entire population of the dorm. It goes without saying that this involves costumes (obviously) and the consumption of a lot of cheap, off-brand vodka (again, obviously). Sarah and I undertook the construction of fairly elaborate Energy Domes so we could punish puny little frosh whilst dressed up as Devo. Amazingly, and perhaps appallingly, many freshmen were too young to have any idea who Devo were/are! What the crap?!

Good thing we don't need the validation of others to justify our sense of self-worth! The important thing is that our little crew was entertained -- actually, that's how this blog started. Not with Devo costumes, at least not specifically. It started with the desire to entertain friends -- friends I'll be seeing in just a few weeks! (Studio audience: "Awwww!")

* We haven't actually been roommates since 2002, but continue to refer to each other as such.

We were randomly assigned to room together as freshman. Other than the fact one of us would be supplying a drying rack for our room, I knew basically nothing about Sarah prior to meeting her on the first day of college. Upon meeting, we clicked instantly and ended up staying awake all night giggling like crazy people (aided in part, no doubt, by actually being crazy people) over the fact that fate had inexplicably dealt us the best roommate pairing EVER!
