"My Life as a Teenage Goth"

MAKE IT STOP!

When I lived in London, I had the good luck of living in Camden Town. How did UCL know that this would be the right place for me? I don't know. When I received my living assignment papers, Mom was eager to read up on the area of the city in which I'd been placed. Much to her horror, Camden Town was described as being a "hotbed of youth counterculture." I was, of course, pretty pleased by this. Loitering punks populated our tube stop. We bumped grocery carts with deathrockers in the local Sainsbury's. And weekends were spent in (arguably) the world's best fetish/cybergoth/whatever market, located just down the street from our home. Even if a night out meant elbowing Glowworm-like girls in New Rock boots (ugh) for space in front of the bathroom mirror, I was in heaven. (Electric Ballroom, anyone?)

Really, my only complaint about the neighborhood was the afterschool crowd of 'tween wannabes attempting to hold court out on the sidewalk. It was a tangle of plump-faced weaklings in Papa Roach t-shirts and pathetic braided hair. I thought perhaps it was just a phase, but this article makes the situation all to clear. What we have here is not a trend; it's an epidemic -- a Mall Goth epidemic!

"Misery Whispers"?! I'm dying here!

GIVE THESE KIDS SOME JOY DIVISON!

N.B.: Dimmu Borgir is from Norway, not "somewhere in Germany." Idiot.
