42: Anarchy in the City
This weekend, sadly, no movies were watched.
The pirate table has become a much larger project than originally anticipated, due in part to a change in paint choice. Rather than using spray paint, we are using oil-based paint that requires more careful application and longer drying periods. I hope that I have next Monday off so I can make some more progress. So far, I've cut out the skull stencil, and sanded and primed the areas for the white stripes (hardy har har). It is looking semi-fabulous right now, with increasing chances of fabulousness in the next week.
The pirate table is just one of several current projects. I have selected my next Chinatown-based accessory purchase: I intend to buy one of those cheesy customized belt buckles, inspired by the "ANTI" t-shirt Chris and I saw recently while shopping.
Chris correctly assumed that I would, at first, contemplate buying the shirt. He was also correct that I would quickly decide I was too "anti-" for anything, including that shirt, and opt not to buy it. And he was also correct in assuming I would also decide to be "anti-" anyone who *did* buy it.
Am I so easily read? Nevermind.
My real concern now is should my belt buckle read "ANTI" or "NIHIL"? I'm not sure I can pull of a belt buckle so large that it reads "NIHILIST." I am also "anti" anyone needing me to be so straightforward and requiring the "-ist."
I am not impressed by what's happening down the street from my office. What Mom feared would be Seattle-style chaos has, to my knowledge, only resulted in relatively dignified and peaceful protests (still, a thumbs up for that) and some strange costume choices. But whatever is happening right at this moment seems to require the constant tooting of a Police whistle right outside my window, implying nothing tear-gas-and-rubber-bullets terrible is happening. That said, it's making concentrating on work highly difficult.
Other than that, there's not much else to report. So, I'll leave you with this -- an oldie but a goodie -- courtesy of Jade Puget...
"In other news, we had a photo shoot today for the album artwork in this old abandoned building. Here's what happened to me there: I stepped on a dead mouse, sat in a stinky pigeon nest, and set my glasses down in crackhead puke."
