32: Hella!
So, like I was saying, San Francisco was FANtastic.
Sunday: Pete and I wake up at 4 AM and go to JFK. We fly directly to San Francisco after Pete tries to eat my granola; the plane also carries a doped-up Boston Terrier which adds to the excitement. We land around 10 AM and the dog comes back to life. It totally spazzes out in baggage claim and attempts to use Pete in an effort to remove its harness. It ignores children. We pick up the rental car and drive into the city. We check into the hotel. We eat lunch at a 50's themed diner.
We walk around and take public transportation to the baseball stadium. We are briefly sidetracked when Pete darts off the train unexpectedly and I am distracted by a crazy man who declares (correctly) that the dogs playing outside the window are bigger than the children. We get excellent seats at the baseball game. The baseball stadium is beautiful, and everyone is super-nice. We go back to the hotel as we are tres tired.
Monday: We have been together for two years now. We celebrate with more food at another 50's themed dinner, where I eat the bejesus out of a pile of pancakes. We walk to Chinatown, which requires walking up very steep hills. Pete buys me a handmade Chinese stamp with my name, made by an awesome guy in Chinatown with the use of a pink toothbrush just like the one I use to clean my teeth! We eat ice cream. We go to Coit Tower, which is killer. We walk around some more. We walk to Fisherman's Warf and look at sea lions. We eat stuff. We walk around on an awesome turn-of-the-century ship with full-on sails and a stuffed pig. I buy some pirate junk. We eat huge sundaes at Ghirardelli, despite being full. We waddle to a cable car where a crazy guy is putting on a show which confuses foreign tourists. We ride the cable car back to the hotel. We watch some reality program despite our best efforts not to. We eat at a nice restaurant.
Tuesday: We eat at the previous 50's themed diner and go to the cable car museum. It was good. We go to the Asian Art Museum, which was also good. Pete calls Kevin. We go to Haight St. We are overcome with an inexplicable need to shop. Pete buys something, I buy a ton. Everyone is super-nice and I am asked to do a hair-modeling thing, told that my handbag is nice, and complimented on my choice of a new pirate-themed tote. We see very few actual hippies. We are sucked into a pub quiz and do well. When things start to fall apart, we leave and take a cab back to the hotel. The cab driver is a nut who talks about some area of the city being a "refugee dump" and casually mentions how he and a friend drove around Mexico looking for a "donkey show." We go back to the hotel and make fun of him.
Wednesday: We eat at the second 50's themed diner. We drive out to see Kevin in Sonoma. The drive is excellent. Sonoma is excellent. We meet up and eat lunch with Kevin's wife Jen, and then meet up with their daughter Fiona at her daycare. She covers plastic horses with silly putty in a moving and slightly frightening way. We drive around Sonoma. Fiona and I color, and then play with stuffed animals. We drive out to a farm where I hold a chicken and play with dogs. We go back to the hotel and eat dinner. We may have had another sundae. Who can say?
Thursday: We eat at the first 50's themed diner and walk around. We take a cable car and do more touristy stuff. We go to Alcatraz which is awesome. Pete contemplates a plan to stay on the island overnight. We eat candy. The tour is killer. We eat in an awesome restaurant that Pete says Kirk Hammett went to. We go out for drinks. We sit under bright lights.
Friday: We get up, go again to a diner, and go to the Ferry terminal. We go to the cartoon art museum and it's killer. We drop of the rental and fly home. A drunk passenger enjoys Shrek 2 way too much. We relax at Pete's.
Saturday: We sleep way too late, and watch three movies in a row. ROCK!
