30: CELEBRITY SIGHTING
(Parker Posey)
If you're Chris, you'll appreciate that I spent lunch shopping. And, if you're Chris, you'll hate what I purchased. It's not as if I were on the verge of not owning enough black clothing -- there's no real danger of that ever happening. In any event, I'm pleased.
And while I was out I saw some interesting things, the first of which was a pair of little boys gleefully beating each other with rolled up newspapers. Their sparring on the corner of 6th (never the "Avenue of the Americas," NEVER) eventually attracted a small crowd of adult spectators, some of whom cheered the two on with "GET HIM! GET HIM!" It was difficult to say which boy was favored to win.
The second notable thing I saw was some sort of slick and seemingly invisible substance in the crosswalk outside the "Manhattan Mall." Or, rather, the gross Nicole Richie look-alike who fell down in it.

Maybe you received a text message from me earlier this week, claiming I had just seen Joaquin Phoenix outside Whole Foods. Maybe you thought I was slipping, that my keen eye had lost its celebrity-spotting gift, simply because (upon further investigation) it wasn't Joaquin at all. Admittedly, the slight error placed doubt even in my mind.

But rest assured that my gift is still among us. If there is a celebrity nearby, I will find him.
Or, her.
The third notable thing I saw at lunch was: Parker Posey.

She was walking up 6th Avenue near 29th and carrying a very large bag containing a very small dog. She was also talking into a cell phone and looking unhappy. I did not feel the encounter merited a text message announcement.
